KanCare Health Plans Form Association

Posted by KAMHP Staff at Jun 10, 2014 08:00 AM |

AmerigroupKansas, Sunflower Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare are pleased to announce they have formed a statewide not for profit association known as the Kansas Association of Medicaid Health Plans (KAMHP).

According to KAMHP Board Chair Gary Haulmark of Amerigroup, “The purpose of creating this nonprofit association is to keep our member organizations informed on current developments relating to managed health care policy within the State of Kansas and to help us appropriately shape and implement industry policy.  The establishment of the Kansas Association of Medicaid Health Plans follows a model in other states where managed care organizations come together in this fashion.”

“We hope to foster better communications among our members in order to more effectively respond to the most pressing and relevant issues facing the managed care industry.  We want to do all we can to position our health plans to deliver the highest quality care to our consumers while achieving the goals of managed care.  We believe the formation of this association will be invaluable in that process,” said Haulmark.

The association has contracted with Troy Findley, a principal at Summit Strategies Group, to provide association management services and function as its part-time executive director.  Findley is a former Kansas Lieutenant Governor, Gubernatorial Chief of Staff, and state legislator.

The Association began operating in an initial start-up and planning phase in January of this year.  The Association itself has no current plans to be engaged in lobbying activities at either the state or federal level.
